Known as one of Switzerland's most influential and successful designers of his time, Hannes Wettstein was a significant talent in industrial design, furniture and architecture. He was willing to rethink everything determined by design – from human behaviour and how rooms are organised to the purpose of things. His impulse to investigate, constantly researching and exploring, led to refreshing solutions reflecting his passion for art and technology.
Already as a child, Wettstein was intrigued by functions, details and colours. Later describing himself as an anarchist, he was breaking boundaries and challenging the norm, often leading him to often surprisingly simple solutions underlining his dedication to precision, clarity and refined design. Uniting creativity and rational functionalism. Wettstein has left his mark on contemporary conceptions of design, being responsible for several significant designs and interiors, such as the Hotel Grand Hyatt in Berlin.
“ For me, innovation often consists of introducing the familiar into new contexts in unexpected ways. ”
