About Fredericia
Fredericia is a family-owned and B Corp-certified design company established in 1911. We are co-founders of Danish Modern Design and are deeply committed to transparency, authentic materials, and human empathy.
Originating from the foundation of Danish furniture design and manufacturing, our heritage is characterised by indisputable classics and enduring collections that have sustained decades of consistent production. We uphold an outstanding design archive, and a profound knowledge of furniture design passed down through generations. Our perspectives on design constantly evolve, shaped by the dynamic interplay of production, culture, and everyday life.
Driven by a passion for crafting contemporary originals rooted in our heritage yet resonant with a global audience, we are committed to creating authentic, purposeful, and sustainable designs crafted to last.
“ We strive for clarity, good materials, human empathy, and above all strength – both in design and business. ”
Andreas Graversen, CEO for Fredericia, 1955-1995.
Our core values
Craftsmanship
Our production facilities in Denmark are important to us, as it's the dedication of our crafts people who make the difference.
Legacy
Since our foundation, we have built a strong tradition of craftsmanship and design, developed in close collaboration with a circle of internationally recognised designers.
Authentic, purposeful, sustainable designs. Crafted to last.
Our proud spirit can be traced back to our first workshop founded on traditional craftsmanship and modern industrial production. The company was initially established as Fredericia Stolefabrik (Fredericia Chair Factory) in the namesake city. Instantly, Fredericia became known for extremely high-quality furniture in various traditional styles.
In 1955, visionary entrepreneur Andreas Graversen integrated the heritage of high-quality furniture with modernist ideals in close collaboration with Børge Mogensen, Fredericia’s first house designer. Mogensen’s intuitive understanding of materials and a strong sense of proportions led to a range of iconic pieces celebrated to this day - by collectors, museums, architects, and designers worldwide.
With the acquisition of Erik Jørgensen Møbelfabrik in 2020, Fredericia expanded its design archive with a range of classics, including several iconic sofas, and united two brands that share common values and approaches to the market. The ongoing local production in Svendborg testifies to our commitment to preserve and strengthen Danish furniture craftsmanship.
Today, Fredericia is still owned by the Graversen family, who continues to introduce pioneering furniture designs to bridge the gap between the historical design heritage and the new contemporary culture.
Design collaborations
Ever since the work of Børge Mogensen, Fredericia has continuously evolved by staying in tune with the times. Throughout the years, the Graversen family has expanded Fredericia’s circle of designers – from Ditzel and Wegner to contemporary names such as Barber Osgerby, Jasper Morrison, Maria Bruun, Keiji Takeuchi and Cecilie Manz, each contributing to the renewal and reinterpretation of the Fredericia design ethos.
Inspired by the creative power of long-lasting relationships, Fredericia continues to see designer collaborations as close partnerships based on a deep mutual trust - forming a creative culture characterised by the integrity of design, artistic expression, material expertise and industry knowledge.

Local production
Our local production facilities are important to us, and we are proud to honour our history of local expertise and unchanging quality. Our name, Fredericia, comes from the fact that the company was founded in the city of Fredericia in 1911. To this day, we still have local production facilities for selected designs both in Fredericia and Svendborg.
A team of devoted and skilled professionals at our workshop propels our dedication to local production. Their expertise and passion are the driving force behind maintaining our high quality and sustainability standards.
