Aarhus School of Architecture
At Godsbanen in the heart of Aarhus, Denmark's first newly constructed school of architecture has been built. This visionary building features transparency, high ceilings, and a raw workshop character.
The Aarhus School of Architecture is an integral part of the city and has transformed into a vibrant, community-engaged laboratory. Here, architecture takes shape through close collaboration with city residents, the municipality, the business community, design studios, the construction industry, entrepreneurs, and local cultural institutions.
In keeping with the school's traditions and historical roots, it still uses Børge Mogensen's iconic Spoke-Back Sofa, J39 chairs and corresponding tables more than 50 years after their initial acquisition. The school's original logo, designed by architect and graphic designer Naur Klint, is also engraved on the chair backs.
Award-winning architecture
A significant focus on sustainability is also evident in using recycled materials, which has led to the creation of a unique four-story wooden library that reuses old shelves from Hack Kampmanns Erhvervsarkiv.
ADEPT, Vargo Nielsen Palle, Rolvung & Brøndsted Architects, and Praksis Architects designed the school. Additionally, the architecture school has been honoured as an award-winning architectural achievement.
