The Ditzel Lounge Chair designed by Nanna Ditzel and Jørgen Ditzel in 1953 offers an intimate space in a comfortable lounge chair without loose cushions. The clearly defined shape is imbued with poetic expression, typical of the work of Nanna Ditzel, which earned her a place as one of the most important Danish designers in her generation.

Materials

Legs of solid wood mounted with metal thread. Body moulded in cold cured foam, CMHR or HR foam, reinforced with steel frame and topped with batting. Upholstered in fabric or leather with piping in the same upholstery. Available with piping in leather when upholstered in fabric. Cover is non-removable.

Meet the designer

Known as “Grand dame of Danish design”, Nanna Ditzel (1923-2005), with her postmodernist attitude and rebellion against tradition, became a leading figure in the renewal of Danish design in the 1990s, well after her 70th birthday.

Ditzel was not only strikingly ambitious but progressive and forward-looking for her time. Highly occupied with our ways of sitting, she believed comfortable furniture paved the way for new ways of thinking and living, having an incredible ability to transform an artistic thought into highly functional and usable furniture.
