Calmo Sofa, designed by Hugo Passos, has become a favourite for Fredericia and our customers since its launch in 2019. It is a sofa crafted with longevity in mind, allowing everyday life to be a focal point in its design. Calmo remains true to our mission to create furniture that are authentic, purposeful, and sustainable designs crafted to last. Designed for everyday life
Portuguese-born, Copenhagen-based designer Hugo Passos designs everyday objects that are familiar and enjoyable, both in form and use. Passos’ work is inspired by the designer’s ongoing interest in the human scale of everyday objects.
Without disregarding the artistic potential of design, Passos stays true to his view that designs must first and foremost serve their purpose. While paying great attention to the materials, structure and ergonomics that influence the use and final synthesis of Calmo, his approach resonates deeply with Fredericia’s core design values.
Durable design and lasting comfort
The sofa has tight upholstery and loose, casual cushions made of a solid foam core and down wrap. The cushions have a textile cover on both sides, making them reversible for even patina through years of use. The sofa is made with a continuous stitch from the front side of the sofa to the rear end of the arm, resulting in an armrest with no visible stitching in the place where a sofa is usually most prone to wear and tear.
